Shihad

Shihad have been making high-energy hard rock for 26 years. August 2014 marks the release of their 9th studio album.

Back in 1988 at high school in Wellington frontman, Jon Toogood and drummer, Tom Larkin started a band after discovering a mutual passion for American speed metal.

26 years on and Shihad are still delivery high-level energetic live performances, keeping them in top spot, as one of New Zealand's most loved hard rock bands.

They released their first ever single, ‘I Only Said’ in 1993, reaching number 3 on the NZ chart. Shihad first featured on a Kiwi Hit Disc with their second single, ‘Stations’, on Kiwi Hit Disc #4 in September 1993.

NZ On Air and Shihad have shared a long successful history, with the band receiving three album grants, 28 music video grants and multiple chart placings.

In 2010 Shihad won the Legacy Award at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and the band was inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall Of Fame.

The first single from their 9th studio album, FVEY (pronounced ‘Five Eyes’), is 'Think You’re So Free’ . The album was recorded with critically acclaimed musician/producer, Jaz Coleman (Churn, Killing Joke) at the legendary York St Studio, now sadly defunct. Shihad was one of the first and one of the last bands to record there. Together they have made an outstanding record with the killer hooks and huge riffs the band are well known for.
