'An individual who is influenced by strong feelings and visuals,' Randa is making quite an impact.

From playing their first show to opening for renowned world-class act Grimes in the same year, Randa (AKA Mainard Larkin) is a talented artist like no other. Not only a skilled rapper, Randa is a proficient songwriter, producer and visual artist.

Last year, Randa's song Frankenstein received a NZ On Air Making Tracks video grant. The music video gained a lot of well-deserved attention all over the internet and was a staff pick on Vimeo. In the same year it was a finalist at the NZ Music awards for NZ On Air Best Music Video.

Randa recently relently released Rangers - their first commercially available EP, pleasing their audience and creating new fans with this strong collection of new songs. NZ On Air will also be funding the video for the popular title track.

Ahead of the NZ On Air Critics' Choice Prize, Randa shared a bit more on who they are as an artist and what's coming up in their world of music.

Describe yourself as an artist:

An individual who is influenced by strong feelings and visuals.

Favourite song by an NZ artist right now?

Love Lockdown Remix by Polo.

Most iconic music video by a NZ artist and why?

I always thought The Cigarette Duet video by Princess Chelsea was really brilliant - can't look away.
I also thought it was great to watch online, the kind of visual which has you instantly dragging your mouse to the share button.

What does being a NZ On Air Critics Choice finalist mean to you?

Rollin' and shakin'. I'm very stoked to be able to bring some amped up show vibes into Critics' Choice! It shows much support to the young up-and-coming artists working hard to share their sound with the universe and I feel fortunate to be performing as a finalist

What is coming up next for you?

I'm currently planning a music video for Rangers and setting up shows around New Zealand as part of the Rangers EP release tour.
