Lake South - Stumbling with balance

NZ On Air 2014 Critics' Choice Prize Finalist

Formerly of the band Urbantramper, Lake South has recently been working on his solo creative project. The Wellington based musician is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and producer whose talents have caught the eye (ears) of this years Critics' Choice judges.

Lake South's latest single 'Good Keen Man' has been getting some well-deserved attention. Earlier this year the song received a NZ On Air Making Tracks video grant. The dreamy electro-pop song was also named as a Top 20 finalist in the prestigious Apra Amcos Silver Scroll Awards.

Ahead of the Critics' Choice Prize, Lake filled us in on a little more of what he's about as an artist and where he's headed with his music.

Suren Unka - Flee

Most iconic music video by an NZ artist and why?

I've always loved this clip - it just nails it.

What does being a Critics' Choice finalist mean to you?

It means I have to write some more songs real quick and Oliver has to leave his electric kit in my tiny bedroom so it's hard to reach my clothes in the morning.

What is coming up next for you?

Lake South has this one show on the 29th and then the annual Home Alone Music party in Wellington on December 20. We're also shooting a clip for Good Keen Man that should be out in late November. I'd like to release an album or EP in early 2015. Apart from that, I'm playing sea shanties around the country with the Wellington Sea Shanty Society and writing NZ Idle two with the Poor Sailors.
