We support multi-platform news and information content serving regional audiences. This audio-visual content is rarely provided by national media organisations and is a key part of our support for community broadcasting.
In 2015 we began a review of our funding of regional television.
We commissioned an independent review and conducted audience research through Colmar Brunton. Following the review NZ On Air decided to seek new ideas for converged regional media content.
Our priority is regional news and information audio/visual content.
We provide approx. $1.3m in annual funding support for multi-media regional news and information services to audiences in seven regions. Our call for new proposals resulted in collaborations and innovation, and services tailored to specific regions.
For more on the four currently funded projects please read our Media release here. Documents related to the review are available here. (need to move to archive and add link)
In the July 2017 funding round we will only consider applications from the existing regional media providers, for an extension of the current projects until 30 June 2018. A full review of the effectiveness of these projects will be undertaken in 2018.
We are not calling for new applications for regional media projects in this round as we do not have any additional funding to offer for 2017/18.
All funding applications must be made through our online application system, Eric by 4pm on 1 June.
Please be aware that all your applications are covered by the Official Information Act - read more here.
